Laboratory testing for the respiratory coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and the associated SARS-CoV-2 virus includes methods that detect the presence of the virus as well as methods that detect antibodies produced in response to the infection. RT-PCR assays detect the RNA of the SARS-CoV-2 virus to identify recent or active infections, whereas immune response assays detect IgA, IgM, and IgG to identify individuals who were infected and have recovered from COVID-19. A plethora of kits, many of which provide inaccurate results, have surfaced to support these endeavors. BioAgilytix's Dr. Corinna Fiorotti provides insight on the latest science and thinking on COVID-19 testing and evolving assay strategies.
In this webinar, she discusses:
- The COVID-19 pandemic’s impact on the scientific world
- Molecular and serological assays and what the results mean
- The implications of SARS-CoV-2 IgG positive test results
- The latest technological advances in testing
